About Matthew Paley, DO, QME, Unconventional Path into Medicine
Dr. Paley’s journey to medicine was unconventional. After working in the tech industry, he followed his gut and returned to school at age 28 to pursue psychiatry. Today he’s a licensed psychiatrist serving patients in the San Francisco Bay Area and across California and Texas via virtual appointments. His choice to take a risk—combined with having seen many parts of the world—gives him a grounded perspective on life.
Current Roles
Director of Psychiatric Services at Heartwood Detox (San Rafael), Consulting Psychiatrist at Recovery Without Walls (Mill Valley), and inpatient care at John George Psychiatric Hospital (San Leandro). Active medical licenses in CA and TX.
Education & Training
Dr. Paley is board-certified in psychiatry. He attended medical school at Touro University and completed his psychiatry residency at The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School. During his training, he was distinguished by his appointment as chief resident of the emergency psychiatric department.
Advocacy & Support
Dr. Paley supports organizations that provide supportive housing for homeless families and those involved in animal rescue.
Personal Interests
Outside of medicine, Dr. Paley is an avid traveler who has visited over 40 countries. He also enjoys hiking, exercise, and cooking.
